What is MRSA?
MRSA is an acronym for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a type of bacteria that has become resistant
to many antibiotics, including methicillin, penicillin, amoxicillin, and cephalosporins,
that triggers potentially deadly lung and bloodstream infections.
It is routinely pronounced MUR-SA.
Although once limited to hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities, MRSA infections are now
very common among healthy children and adults in the community. Your pediatrician will likely suspect that
an infection, such as a leg abscess, is caused by MRSA if it isn't improving.
How is MRSA spread
A much less common way it can spread is by touching surfaces like railings, faucets, or handles that may have been contaminated with MRSA.
If you have MRSA, you can prevent the spread by keeping wounds covered, washing your hands regularly, and avoiding sharing personal items such as towels, washcloths, razors, clothing, or uniforms that may have had contact with a contaminated wound or bandage.

Essential oils fight “superbugs”

- Aromatherapy, the use of volatile plant oils -including essential oils- for psychological and physical
well-being, may hold even more health benefits than once believed. According to research carried out by the
University of Manchester, several essential oils commonly used in aromatherapy have been found to kill
the dangerous and often deadly MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphyloccus aureus) bacteria. Researchers
say this is a major step in preventing disease and infection caused by the bacteria.
- MRSA, often acquired after a person is admitted to hospital, poses substantial threat to patients and staff
alike. Because it is so resistant to the usual medical arsenal of treatment, patients with the bug are often isolated,
and staff and visitors must wear extra protective equipment to avoid contamination.

that our discovery could revolutionize the fight to combat MRSA and other “superbugs””.

As a result, few drug companies are interested in funding the work, as they do not see is as commercially viable. “Obviously, we find this very frustrating, as we believe our findings could help to stamp out MRSA and save lives,” Warn said.
